Moustache - Gold Coast
Tucked into Mermaid Beach’s Oxley precinct, Moustache feels like the kind of small neighbourhood bar you’d stumble across somewhere in Europe. The sort of place people drop into for a quick coffee in the morning and end up back later that night for a glass of wine.
During the day it moves more like a café, with locals stopping in for espresso and cold foam coffees. By the afternoon the pace shifts. Bottles start opening, snacks hit the tables and the space settles into that easy rhythm of boutique wine and conversation. Weekly pasta nights have also become a bit of a ritual, bringing locals back each Wednesday.
Terracotta tiling runs throughout the fit-out, giving the interior a warm Mediterranean feel. When golden hour hits in the afternoon, the light moves across the tiles and out toward the street where the outdoor tables spill onto the sidewalk, making it feel like you’re part of the neighbourhood buzz rather than separate from it.
Most of the shoot was captured on 35mm film using natural light, which suits Moustache’s aesthetic and atmosphere perfectly. With golden hour beaming through the terracotta backdrop, the space does most of the work on its own.
