Just off the Burleigh bend, Après Surf comes to life later in the day. The kind of place people drift into in the late afternoon that slowly rolls into the evening.

The room has a lot of character. Murals, vintage pieces and a pair of old skis sitting in the corner give it a slightly nostalgic feel, somewhere between a coastal dive bar and a punky neighbourhood hangout.

As the evening builds the bar fills quickly. Cocktails come across the counter, DJs spin records and the room starts to lift. Food leans toward relaxed bar classics. Burgers, dumplings and simple plates alongside weekly specials that bring locals back regularly. Parmi night and steak frites night in particular are always popular and tend to sell out.

Capturing it at the end of the day on both digital and film really brought that nostalgic side of the venue forward. The direct flash on film suited the space perfectly, picking up the slightly Sopranos-style tablecloths, the vintage details and the American-style burgers in a way that felt raw, warm and full of character.
